2 Note Chords into the Note

Continuing on in David Barrett’s program…

I see some interesting subtleties…

One is a 2 note chord to single note transition…

In study song 2 there is a  3hole-4hole- blow a 2 note chord. And then the next note is a slap on a 4hole blow…

That little change alone is a slight change, but it makes a difference in the hearing of the song. the straight 4 hole blow ain’t wrong…but it sounds a bit thin when you compare it to adding in a slap and a 2 note chord. It makes the sound a bit more polished.

So I need to play a 4 hole blow. I could just play the 4 hole blow…but there are a number of ways to “Present” a note as I heard David Barrett say…

So I could just play the 4 hole blow straight.

Or I could start it with a slap…

Or I could stat it with a 2 hole chord that eases into the 4 hole blow.

Or you could trill (head shake) between the 3 and 4 hole blows…

This is largely a repeat of the Seasoning Your Playing, but it zeroes in on one specific thing….2 note chords and how cool they are. Especially on the draws which I am finding…

Practice Today

Did an hour and a half this morning. I recorded myself playing the accompaniment study 2 and solo harmonica study 2. I also recorded myself doing the study song, but it needs a bit more work.

hopefully will finish this by the end of the week and ship it off to David Barrett.
